On Friday, April 3, SFTV hosted two of its alumni—Alyssa Brocato ’13 and Megan Stacey ’14—as expert advisers in the first of the school’s “Second Meal” Zoom sessions this spring.
Named after the second meal break that film and TV crews are provided at the end of a 12-hour shoot day, Second Meal brings students together with industry pros in live-action “AMA” sessions that provide practical tips, encouragement, and advice on making the transition from student to working professional.
Brocato and Stacey, both cinematographers, offered tips on finding work and creating a career foothold in their current fields of filming commercials, videos, and short-form series.
The series was conceived by SFTV’s interim head of physical production Laura Greenlee in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. “SFTV‘s Production Office and technical staff wanted to carry on the conversations and support we normally offer on campus by providing this virtual space for topics like equipment training, as well as insights into pre-production, production craft knowledge, and professional connections,” she says.
More Second Meal sessions are planned this semester on the following days:
- April 14: Property Master Lynda Reiss
- April 16: Content Creator Justin Yngelmo ’10
- April 17: Colorists Shane O’Connor ’11 and Sam Zook ’16
- April 24: Director Kelly Park and Cinematographer George Mooradian
