Short films from Chris Jones (Production – M.F.A. ’15) and Ping-Wen Wang (Production – M.F.A. ’15) will screen at this year’s Palm Springs ShortsFest taking place June 17-23. Jones’ documentary Trash, Manufactured profiles Marcus Eriksen, an artist who takes microbeads, plastics and waste found in the oceans and lakes around the world and transforms it all into a stunning and surprising art form. Between Us, written and directed by Wang, tells the story of an unhappy wife’s passionate affair with her children’s female art tutor.
Wang was also interviewed in the June 2014 issue of Rage Monthly Magazine for their piece on LGBT Cinema. Says Wang, “What matters is that people feel the need and the strong desire to experience love. The genders and sexual orientations of characters in a love story should be incidentally demographic. The star of the show should always be ‘in love’ in a love story.
Trash, Manufactured will screen on Thursday, June 19 at 1:30 PM as part of the For Art’s Sake series. Between Us also screens June 19 at 7:30 PM in the Gay-La! HERS: Lesbianation series.
